Love God. Love people.
Jesus Christ is our God and King. He is the Creator of all that exists. He is our Savior and Redeemer. He is worthy of all glory, honor, and praise. Our primary responsibility as His people is to glorify His matchless name. We accomplish this task by living in obedience to His Word. Matthew, under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, records in his gospel account an instance during which a Pharisee asked Jesus which commandment in the law was the greatest. Jesus responded by saying, "Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind. This is the greatest and first command. The second is like it: Love your neighbor as yourself. All the Law and the Prophets depend on these two commands" (Matt 22:37-40).
At the very end of Matthew's Gospel, Jesus gives His disciples (us included) a commission. He says, "All authority has been given to me in heaven and on earth. Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe everything I have commanded you. And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age" (Matt 28:18-20).
These two passages of Scripture, commonly referred to as the Great Commandment and the Great Commission, define the mission of the local church. Jesus commands His followers to love God, love people, and make disciples. At Berlin Baptist Church we count it a joy and a privilege to participate in the mission of God in the world. In all things, may the Lord Jesus Christ be glorified.
come as you are
We are a people in the process of sanctification. That means God isn't finished with us yet. He loves us just like we are, but He loves us too much to leave us like we are. We have imperfect, messy lives, but we are pursuing a transforming relationship with Jesus Christ and with one another. Everyone is welcome at Berlin, regardless of your story, your questions, your doubts, or your struggles. We are all about sharing life together in community, being intentional about our spiritual growth, and serving others along the way.
We invite you to attend a Sunday morning gathering where you will experience a community of Christ-followers authentically engaging in the worship of our God and King.
